The Toniq-R pre-production prototype, designed and built by four students at the University of Huddersfield, doesn’t actually have an engine mounted within its space frame chassis. But if it did, we designers would like to think that the final specification for the road legal Toniq-R would be similar to this:

BODY: Fibreglass panels

CHASSIS: 1” steel powder coated space frame

ENGINE ORIGIN: Suzuki Hayabusa motorbike

DETAILS: Liquid cooled 4 cylinder 16V dohc 1299cc

EXHAUST: Micron twin slash cut 2.5” central rear exit

POWER: 178 bhp @ 9,800 rpm; 102 lb ft @ 7,000 rpm

TRANSMISSION: 6 speed sequential manual, rear wheel drive

WHEELS: 17” x 6” Momo Quazar II

TYRES: Avon ZZ3 205/45 ZR17 road tyres

BRAKES: 298mm discs with 4-pot Brembo calipers

SEATS: Fiberglass bucket with 4 point Sparco harnesses

WEIGHT: 495 kg (360 bhp/tonne)

PERFORMANCE: 0 – 60mph in 3.5 seconds; 140+ mph

PRICE: £4,000 in basic kit form; £16,000 factory built (student discounts available)

(Designers’ note : the production car would include rear view mirrors, cycle wing type mud guards and a small F1-style wind deflector mounted on the bulkhead.)
